SUMMARY:The Irish Sailing and Mountaineering Adventure Race Challenge
DESCRIPTION:The Irish Sailing and Mountaineering Adventure Challenge – The ISAMAC (“eye-sa-mack”) – is a sailing and mountaineering race from Kinsale to Dingle\, taking in three mountains\, two of them being amongst the highest in Ireland. \n3rd ISAMAC: 5pm Saturday 30 May 2020 \nEarly-bird entry for the 2020 race is £300 per team\, rising to the standard rate of GBP£400 on 1 January 2020 and then to a final ‘late rate’ of GBP£500 per crew on 1 April 2020. Entry closes on 1 May 2020. \nRace outline \nThe ISAMAC starts at 5pm on a Saturday in Kinsale with a 12.5km ‘Two Forts’ running race in Kinsale. Crews then sail to Adrigole to run the Hungry Hill ridge\, before sailing to Templenoe to cycle to and climb Carrauntoohil – Ireland’s highest mountain at 1038m. The final sailing leg is to Dingle\, from where the runners will take the spectacular ridge to Mount Brandon (952m) and back to Dingle to the finish – in John Benny’s Pub. Rowing is allowed. \nTeams can enter in one of two classes\, the ‘All Rounders Class’ or the ‘Runners Class’: In the ‘All-rounders Class\,’ every member of the crew must summit at least one of the three ‘peaks\,’ with teams of at least two required for each leg. In the ‘Runners Class\,’ each boat has two nominated runners – these two nominated specialised runners must summit every peak. Additional support runners are not allowed in the Runners Class. \nThe ISAMAC has been created to take in the most spectacular sailing in Ireland – as well as its most challenging and iconic mountain landscapes. The mountain sections are the most direct and elegant routes\, keeping runners off roads as much as is possible and practical\, while making the most of ridge walking/running opportunities and views. Dolphins\, gannets\, seals\, skylarks and plenty of other wildlife awaits you too!

Many competitors will be attempting this cycle in the dark which along with the wind can turn it into one of the toughest stages depending on when you hit it. \nStage 6: Run (42km) Towards Gartan Adventure Centre along the paths and trails of Glenveagh National Park\nThe final stage is for many the toughest with the majority of competitors completing all of the 42km’s in darkness. \nRace Schedule\n10 March – 12 March 2017\nGartan Adventure Centre\, located on the banks of Gartan Lake\, will play host to The Race 2019. \nN.B. SUMMARY:Sea 2 Summit
DESCRIPTION:S2S EVENT INFO\nWestport Sea 2 Summit takes place on Saturday 9th November. The adventure race is a unique event based in the adventure capital of Ireland\, Westport. The race incorporates all the thrills that Westport has to offer; Croagh Patrick\, Clew Bay\, the Sheaffry Mountains and the new Greenway. \nWestport Sea2Summit is organised and run by the Westport Plaza & Castlecourt Hotel Resort under the guidance of Race Director\, Paul O ‘Brien of Boot Camp West. \nThere will be two separate races with three categories in both\, which will include a mix of road running\, cycling\, and a mountain hike. \nThe Sea2Summit Spirit will cater for the participant that wants a challenge but has not taken part in adventure racing before. Duration time for the fastest will be 2.5 – 3hrs. \nThe Sea2Summit Supreme is for the participant who wants an extra challenge. The hike up and down the front face of Croagh Patrick (Murrisk) will hurt the legs and the back breaking ramps at the Maum climb will definitely test your bike and quad muscles.\nDuration time for the elite athletes will be around 3.5hrs.\nIn these two races\, there are 3 categories to choose from: \n\nAdvanced\nIntermediate\nBeginner\n\nYou will be asked when registering which category you would like to be in. We ask people to enter themselves into a category so that they will be competing alongside competitors of the same standard. \n\nThe S2S Supreme Course\nThe event begins at the Westport Plaza & Castlecourt Hotel Resort. \nStage 1 Participants will run up Distillery Road on to the new Greenway and follow the Greenway to Westport Quay. (4km) \nStage 2 The 1st Transition Point is at Roman Island there you change on to your bike and follow the road out via the coast to Murrisk (8k) to Croagh Patrick car park. ( Transition 2) \nStage 3 Changing shoes again to climb Croagh Patrick (5k) which is widely known and we are using the most used side for the race. At the top we urge that you take care on the descent as the loose shale is dangerous and numerous accidents have occurred there in the past. \nStage 4 Returning to Croagh Patrick Car Park to pick up your bike and take on the rolling hills. Taking the main road to Louisburgh turning at Kilsallagh for Drummin where the steep climb of the Maum awaits you; recommended gearing on your bike is 39×27 its 25% in places\, through Drummin village and on to Liscarney where it’s all downhill back to Roman Island transition point. \nStage 5 The last section could be the hardest\, with a 4 km run to include an obstacle course and sea run\, returning to Westport Town via the Greenway\, finishing at the Fairgreen overlooking the Mall River. \nTHE S2S SPIRIT COURSE\nThe S2S Spirit Course is similar with the same first run and bike but the hike up Croagh Patrick only goes as far as the ridge (3k) and then descends to the car park leaving out the torches Cone. The Cycle home is also reduced to 8km. \nWHAT ARE THE DISTANCES BREAKDOWN FOR S2S\nThe S2S Spirit\nRace Format \n\n4k run\n8k cycle\n3k Mountain run (Croagh Patrick) at half distance (1.5K) and at bottom (3K)\,\n11k cycle\n4k run with sea run (depending on tide times).Total distance 30km\n\nThe S2S Supreme\nRace Format \n\n4k run\n8k cycle\n5k Mountain run (Croagh Patrick) at half distance(2.5k) and at bottom (5k)\n35k cycle hilly cycle at (14K) and end of cycle\n4k run with sea run (depending on tide times).Total distance 56km\n\nRules of the Road and All Instructions from race marshals and Gardai must be obeyed at all times. \nWestport Sea 2 Summit Adventure Race €65\nAdventure Race Plus Hot Buffet Meal & Prize Giving on Saturday Night in the Castlecourt Hotel. \nClick here to view the Town Map \nSafety Information – What you need to know before you climb: Click Here \nWestport Sea 2 Summit would like to share the ethos of care on Croagh Patrick.\n• We would like to acknowledge and thank the landowners in their support for the Sea2Summit Adventure Race.\n• We acknowledge that Croagh Patrick is a place of pilgrimage and must be respected by all competitors\n• We are asking all competitors to by all means familiarize themselves with the route but we respectfully ask that they do not to use the mountain as a training ground in the build up to the events\n• Westport Sea 2 Summit  would like to promote an environmental policy on the mountain ; on our website we will encourage competitors to take your  litter with you\, “What you bring up you must bring down!”

All are welcome. Venue and time to be confirmed. \nRunning Sections\nThe running sections are generally good quality roads\, paths\, or trails\, but a lot of the trails are very wet and soft so expect muddy ankles! \nThe forest trail has a lot of fallen leaves so will be slippery. \nGenerally\, participants are asked to keep to the left-hand side of the track\, except on the main road on the return leg of the run where you will keep to the right within the coned pathway. Note this is an in and out run so you will have participants coming towards you at times. Please give way to inbound (faster) racers. \nExpert – TBC \nAll runs will finish back at the start point where you will transition to your bike. \nBiking Sections\nThe race takes place on open roads. Markings and marshals are there to help you and to manage traffic safety\, but you must take responsibility for your own safety and must obey the rules of the road at all times. \nRoad surfaces are typically tarmac covered country/back roads and generally will be normal to poor surface\, sometimes VERY poor (It’s an Adventure Race not a Tri!). Any markings stating that there is bad surface ahead can be taken literally. Note any descents marked as dangerous must be cycled in single file with no overtaking allowed. \nPlease rack your bike as tightly as possible and attach your helmet to your bike whilst it is in transition. Bikes will be moved by marshals if not racked properly. \nYou will be instructed to mount and dismount at certain points and you must obey these instructions. Anyone failing to do so may be disqualified and/or asked to abandon the race by the Race Director. \nSport & Expert : Coomb Hill\, known locally as “The Wall”\, is a narrow steep climb where many will need to dismount. As instructed by marshals\, please walk on left and pass on right only. \nYou will not be allowed to mount your bike unless you are wearing a helmet. For safety reasons Aero/Tri Handlebars are not permitted. \nPuncture resistant tyres are strongly recommended for the Sport and Expert courses. \nThe end of the bike leg has a 120 degree very sharp bend off the main road back to the club entrance. Please pay extra attention at this turn when instructed. \nKayak Sections\nParticipants in Expert and Sport will be required to kayak a 1.5 km course on Lough Hyne\, on event-organizer-provided sit-on-top double kayaks. \nParticipants will be provided with a buoyancy aid\, which is compulsory to wear at all times on the water. \nIf you arrive to the kayak area and a kayak is available you must take the next one up. In a case where no kayak is available you will be asked by the Timing Marshal to time out while you await a free kayak. Time outs can only be taken if directed by the Timing Marshal. Kayak course may be shortened (due to weather conditions etc) if deemed necessary by the Race Director before or during the event. \nA full safety team will be on the water and you must accept any instructions given to you by this team without dispute. \nFinally\nParticipants undertake SCAR Skibbereen Adventure Race at their own risk. The event is covered by public liability insurance but should you require personal insurance you should make your own arrangements. \nPlease familiarise yourself with the route maps. \nPlease observe warning signs and any race marshal’s advice. \nYou are privileged to be allowed to race in several of these iconic facilities normally reserved for casual recreation\, so please respect the environment. \nAnyone found littering in any section of the course will be immediately disqualified. Feel free to report others littering to our marshals. \nRemember every one of the 100+ marshals you meet during the race is giving their time freely to volunteer to make your race better. \nPlease respect them and give them a small thank you as you pass them. \nWithout them you wouldn’t be racing! \n  \nThanks for all your support. Have a great race. Enjoy! \nFor Full List of FAQ’s\, click here…

SUMMARY:FEARmanagh Adventure Race
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to FEARmanagh!\nWhat better way to spend a Saturday morning than getting up close and personal with Fermanagh’s rugged and wild terrain. Cycle through quiet back roads that cut through the limestone landscape\, carved out by Ireland’s icy past\, they’re guaranteed to give you more ups than downs! \nThen experience the wetter side of Fermanagh as you take to the water for 2 challenging Kilometres along Lough Erne’s rocky shores – and if the 304 metre near vertical climb to the top of the Magho Cliff Challenge doesn’t take your breath away\, then maybe the panoramic view it offers at the top will! So in a county steeped in myth and folklore\, are you ready to become a legend in your own time? \nFEAR is a multi-sport competition consisting of three sporting disciplines cycling\, trail running and kayaking: \n\nBelow are last years details. This years details to be announced shortly…\n\nLong Race\n\nCycling (Knockmore to Lough Shore) 10.2kms\nRunning (Wee Dog Jog) 7kms\nCycling (Knockmore to Lough Shore cont……) 30.5kms\nRunning (Blackslee Trail) 4.5km\nCycling (Knockmore to Lough Shore cont……) 3.8kms\nRunning (The Magho Cliff Challenge – downhill) 1.2kms\nKayaking (Paddle Power Point) 2kms\nRunning (The Magho Cliff Challenge – uphill 1\,000ft) 1.2km\nCycling (Lough Shore to Pub Door) 13.6kms\n\nTotal: 74Kms (approx) \nFull Description\nLEG 1 – CYCLING \nAfter an easy start down through Derrygonnelly a series of small hills brings you to the foot of Knockmore. The climb starts steeply and gets worse before an easy section just after half way leads to the final ramp. Treat this climb with respect as there’s not much recovery before you reach Transition 1 (T1) and it’s too early in the day to be digging deep. \nLEG 2 – TRAIL RUN \nA fairly fast route on forest fire road with a short section of tarmac road at halfway. If it’s clear there can be great views early on towards the Sligo hills. Once through the farm yard after the road section prepare yourself for a sapping uphill drag of about 1km before retracing part of your outward route back to the bike. \nLEG 3 – CYCLING \nThe first section to Cashel Cross is great – good surface\, sweeping bends and almost all downhill. The next bit to Garrison isn’t too bad either – an initial climb followed by a quick section on the back road into the village. The route takes in the beautiful park alongside Lough Melvin before a short off road section across a footbridge and up a steep un-surfaced track. You’ll have to run this bit but it’s all over in a minute or two. The rest of the leg to T2 is on good road but it’s tough. Endless short steep hills or long drags for most of the way sap the strength of even the best cyclist. The section from the high point at Meenacloybane to the entrance to the forest drive gives you some respite before the final leg buster to T2. \nLEG4 – TRAIL RUNNING \nAlthough shorter than the first trail run this one seems harder. Again the first half is downhill on fire road except for about 800m of single track past the waterfall. It’s all uphill now back to the transition. It feels relentless at this stage in the race. \nLEG 5 – CYCLING \nThis is the shortest bike leg. If you’ve been changing shoes between running and cycling you might decide it’s not worth it for this section. The only problem is the really steep bit of road about half way in. Not easy to overcome in trail shoes on clipless pedals. If you can take the time to admire the view from T3 glance across Lough Erne towards Donegal. It’s spectacular but looks a long way down. \nLEG 6 – TRAIL RUNNING \nAlmost 300metres of descending in less than 1km. This will trash the legs unless you’re used to hill running. The steps can be tricky but you must keep to the path. \nLEG 7 – KAYAKING \nGrab your choice of open top kayak and head east parallel to the shoreline for 500metres before rounding the buoy and heading back past the transition area to the next buoy barely visible 1km away. You should be sheltered from the prevailing winds so you can enjoy the long views across Lough Erne to your right or contemplate what’s to come on the next leg to your left. Round buoy 2 and head back to transition. \nLEG 8 – TRAIL RUNNING \nAs a one off this next bit\, the climb back up to T3\, is hard enough but after what’s gone before it’s nothing short of horrendous. If you can run all the way and not cramp up you’ll be one of the very few. \nLEG 9 – CYCLING \nThe glory leg\, this is a fast and furious descent to the finish. Enjoy it. No holding back required. Let your inner Bradley Wiggins out. \nNB. Routes may be subject to slight changes \n  \nShort Course\nShort Race \n\nCycling (Tir Navar to Lough Navar) 9.8kms\nRunning (Blackslee Trail) 4.5km\nCycling (Knockmore to Lough Shore cont……) 3.8kms\nRunning (The Magho Cliff Challenge – downhill) 1.2km\nKayaking (Paddle Power Point) 1km\nRunning (The Magho Cliff Challenge – uphill 1\,000ft) 1.2km\nCycling (Lough Shore to Pub Door) 13.6kms\n\nFull Description\nLEG 1 – CYCLING \nAfter an easy start down through Derrygonnelly a series of small hills brings you to the foot of the climb up to the forest drive entrance. The next bit isn’t any easier; it’s a leg buster to T1. \nLEG 2 – TRAIL RUNNING \nMaybe on the map this doesn’t look too bad but give it some respect. The first half is downhill on fire road except for about 800m of single track past the waterfall. It’s all uphill now back to the transition. It feels relentless and will sap the leg strength before the next section. \nLEG 3 – CYCLING \nThis is the shortest bike leg. If you’re changing shoes between running and cycling you might decide it’s not worth it for this section. The only problem is the really steep bit of road about half way in. Not easy to overcome in trail shoes on clipless pedals. If you can take the time to admire the view from T2 glance across Lough Erne towards Donegal. You should be sheltered from the prevailing winds so you can enjoy the long views across Lough Erne to your right or contemplate what’s to come on the next leg to your left. Make sure to go around the jetty before heading into the shore. \nLEG 6 – TRAIL RUNNING \nAs a one off this next bit\, the climb back up to T2\, is hard enough but after what’s gone before it’s nothing short of horrendous. If you can run all the way and not cramp up you’ll be one of the very few. \nLEG 7 – CYCLING \nThe glory leg\, this is a fast and furious descent to the finish. Enjoy it. No holding back required. SUMMARY:Tuff-Inish Adventure Race
DESCRIPTION:  \nTuff-Inish promises to be a real physical and mental challenge\, fueled by the spectacular scenery at every turn and twist of the course. The hilly Donegal landscapes and unpredictable Autumn weather will be a major player in the unpredictable outcome over all 6 stages to an exhilarating and Tuff Finish. \nTuff-Inish has a 12 hour cut-off and can be completed Solo or in teams of 2 or 3 so if your not into Adventure racing this is also a decent challenge for a runner / cyclist team. The event starts and finish in Moville at Moville Celtic F.C. Clubhouse \nExtreme North organisation\, hospitality and medals will be all up to the customary high standards. \nThis event is also the perfect “stepping stone” for The RACE 2020\, same sequence\, halved distances and a matching level of difficulty and endurance and an abundance of scenery. \n  \nCourse Breakdown (132k) \n  \nSTAGE 1 – RUN 1 – 12.5km Road Run / Moville – Shroove – Greencastle \nTuff Inish has an early dawn start from Moville Celtic Club house up thru’ Moville town with spectacular views over the Causeway Coast from 5k before the decent into Shroove and onto Greencastle and T1. \n \nSTAGE 2 – KAYAK – 5.5km Kayak / Greencastle – Moville \nStarting from Greencastle Pier the Kayaking will take place along the West Bank of Lough Foyle. Kayaks will be sit-on-top kayaks. Paddles and Life jackets supplied. Kayaks will not have seats but competitors can opt to have their own seats and be personally responsible for fitting same to kayak. \n  \nSTAGE 3 – CYCLE 1 – 55.0km Road Cycle / Moville – Kinnego – Culdaff – Malin – Ballyliffin – Clonmany – Mamore \nThe elevation profile below illustrates this route better than words can so just add in some windy spells along this rugged coastal route. You’ll witness some of the most amazing scenery as you climax numerous vantage points along the route. save your energy for a tough final 0.5k ascend to Car Park at Mamore T3/4. \n \nSTAGE 4 – MOUNTAIN – 5.5km Mountain trail/trek \nStarting with first half on trail then onto a rocky heather climb to the top of Raghtin Beag at just under 3k. Hopefully mist free and taking a few minutes to be amazed at the panoramic vista all around\, then back to transition T3/4 \n \nSTAGE 5 – CYCLE 2 – 31km Road Cycle / Over Mamore – Dunree – Cockhill – Ballymagan – Glentogher \nStarting with a really tough 1.5k climb over Mamore\, then a more relaxed cycle into Buncrana. The final section from Ballymagan to Glentogher is hillier than it appears\, hence the slower than expected pedal on narrow roads and sometime poorly tarred surface. \n \nSTAGE 6 – RUN 2 – 22.5km Run\, Road/trail / Glentogher – Lough Inn – Crock – Ballylawn – Cooley – Glencrow – Finish \nStarting on trail\, check out the Elevation profile below for the 2 other trail sections. SUMMARY:‘Knock ME Down’ Adventure Challenge
DESCRIPTION:This multi-disciplinary event involves Cycling\, Running\, (or walking) and Kayaking. As multi-sport events go\, this is well suited to anybody with a reasonable level of fitness. The entire course is on well marked roads and forestry tracks so getting lost will not be an issue. The start and finish of the challenge is at the GAA field in the village of Newcastle\, not too far from the towns of Clonmel and Cahir\, Co. Tipperary. You can find an outline of the course below. \nSign-In on the morning of the event will be 30 minutes prior to the starting time slot you choose. Starting time slots are available in 10 minute intervals from 9am for MÓR and 9.30am for Challenge participants. There are changing and shower facilities available at the GAA grounds. \nThe breakdown of the Challenge event is as follows: \n• 15km Cycle from Newcastle to Kilballyboy Wood car park/picnic site on Vee Road outside Clogheen\n• 2.5km run/walk from Kilballyboy Wood to Bay Lough\n• 0.5km kayak around Bay Lough\n• 2.5km run/walk from Bay Lough to Kilballyboy Wood car park (different return route)\n• 15km Cycle back to Newcastle \n  \nRoute map for Knock Me Down Challenge by Diarmaid Condon on plotaroute.com \nThe breakdown of the MÓR event is as follows: \n\n4km Loop Run out of and back to Newcastle\n15km Cycle from Newcastle to Kilballyboy Wood car park/picnic site on Vee Road outside Clogheen\n2.5km run/walk from Kilballyboy Wood to Bay Lough\n0.5km kayak around Bay Lough\n2.5km run/walk from Bay Lough to Kilballyboy Wood car park (different return route)\n33km Cycle  via the Vee and Mount Melleray back to Newcastle\n\nRoute map for KnockMeDown Mór by Anthony Murphy on plotaroute.com \nKnock ME Down Challenge Event Description:\nAt 9.30am the first 12 competitors will be set off on their bikes. At 9.40 the next 12 will begin the challenge\, and so on until all competitors are on their way. Time slots are available on a first booked\, first served basis – when a time slot is fully booked it will become unavailable on the system. You can book up to 8 participants at a time. If you do want to book in groups but are booking separately\, try to book later time slots as these book more slowly. \nYou must have appropriate footwear for the event and a proper cycling helmet must be worn for the cycling section. The type of bike used is up to you. With all cycling on tarred surfaces\, a racing bike will probably be the fastest\, while a mountain bike with off-road tyres probably being the slowest! It’s your choice but it must be road worthy at the very least! \nThe Bike Part \nAfter the first 15km cycle you will be at your first time point which is located in the Kilballyboy Wood car park/ picnic area along the Vee road outside Clogheen. There will be bike stands set up here where you simply hang your bike by the saddle on a bar and off you go on your scenic 2.5k run to Bay Lough lake. Don’t worry about your bike\, there will be plenty of marshals at this location to keep them safe (and there will be a service vehicle available should you have any mechanical difficulties.) There is also a water stop at each changeover point. \nUp At The Lake….. \nThe 15 minute interval starting time slots are to avoid a time delay waiting for Kayaks at the Bay Lough section. All Kayaks and associated safety equipment will be provided by the Knockmealdown Active team. Everybody will get a single ‘sit on’ Kayak to paddle around the lake. There will be floating markers placed around the lake which you will have to stay inside. Local folklore dictates that the lake is bottomless. You may also need to keep a lookout for a lady called ‘Petticoat Loose’ who\, if the stories are to be believed\, will come up out of the lake and pull you under……. So best keep as close as you can to the edge\, just in case! If anyone gets in trouble out there we have a Cahir River Rescue team on standby so there is really nothing to worry about. If you really don’t fancy the Kayak section you can skip it entirely. On doing this you will get the slowest Kayak time on the day\, with another 10 mins added to cancel out any advantage you may gain with all that extra energy saved! The Kayak section should take\, on average\, about 7 minutes to complete. \nWhat Goes Up……… \nAs you get out of your Kayak… with your hands crying out for a break\, its time to get back onto the tracks and start your run/walk back down to the Kilballyboy Wood car park. It’s a different track down so keep following the signs and follow instructions from the friendly marshals. \nHome Straight \nOnce you get back to the Bike Park at Kilballyboy Wood\, you have the satisfaction of knowing that you now have a 1.5km descent towards Clogheen to look forward to before you cycle the remaining 13.5km of a generally flat road back to Newcastle. Here you will have your final ‘Dibber’ point to finalise your time for your entire Challenge and you will be given your time and place in the event at that time. \nAt the Finish \nA cool-down massage will be available for all competitors\, along with shower facilities and changing rooms. So you’ll have no excuses when heading to GAA Hall. Here you can enjoy a well earned BBQ and maybe sample a refreshing beer from our event sponsors\, the ‘Eight Degrees’ brewing company\, while you await results of other competitors. \nKnock ME Down MÓR Event Description:\nThe Knock ME Down MÓR event has all of the original Knock ME Down Challenge event but with an added running route at the start and an extended cycling route at the end. \nStart Times: For obvious timing reasons\, the MÓR event takes the first two time slots at 9am and 9.10am. \nAt the Start: Before the first cycle\, MÓR participants will take a 4km loop run out of Newcastle and back to the GAA hall. \nFrom here the participants will then undertake the full Knock ME Down Challenge route as far as the Bike Park at Kilballyboy Wood. \nAt the End: On leaving the bike park\, instead of turning right and heading back to Newcastle\, participants will turn left. This road travels upward over the picturesque Vee\, past Baylough\, on to the former Cats Bar. Here there is a left turn\, climbing past Mount Melleray to the crest of the hill over Newcastle. The event finishes with a breathtaking descent back to Newcastle village. \nTickets for the event are €65 each.

SUMMARY:Bantry Bay Adventure Race
DESCRIPTION:Tackle West Cork’s terrain at the Bantry Bay Adventure Race\n The Experience\nImmerse yourself in the Wild Atlantic Way as you take on the challenge of West Cork’s islands\, bays\, and peninsulas. On August 31st 2019\, take part in the second Bantry Bay Adventure Race and tackle West Cork’s terrain! \nThis is a chip-timed event\, co-ordinated and timed by our expert team\, supported by Cork Sports Partnership. It’s a test of teamwork too\, with competitors pairing up after the run to bring double kayaks across Bantry Bay and back to the Abbey Pier. \nFrom here\, you’ll be cycling out from Bantry onto the renowned Sheep’s Head peninsula\, skirting the bay and with views back across Whiddy Island and Bantry town. Not that you’ll have time to look as you race down the country roads to Gearhies\, doubling back towards Bantry for the final stretch of an invigorating contest. \nIndividual and Team Challenges\nTake on the challenge alone\, or join with friends to compete in the team event. Your team runner will join up with your team’s kayaker in the changeover zone on Whiddy Island. Battle your way across the Bantry Blueway to hand over responsibility to the team’s cyclist on the Bantry side. It’ll be up to the cyclist to complete the Sheep’s Head leg (if you see what we mean)! \nIt’s an amazing event\, raising funds for some very deserving West Cork charities. \nAnd with just 240 places available (30 of which are allocated to the team event)\, there’ll be a race just to make it to the start line. Pre-register for our 2019 race! \n  \nROUTE INFO\n\n5km Run on Whiddy Island\n1\,500m Kayak on Bantry Bay\n22.8km Cycle on the Sheep’s Head peninsula. \nPlaces Limited\n140 single places\n20 team places (teams of 3) \n\n\nIsland\, bay\, and peninsula …\n\n\nTackle West Cork’s terrain\nThe Bantry Bay Adventure Race route begins on West Cork’s Whiddy Island. It’s a fantastic place to start exploring the terrain of Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way. \nOne of seven inhabited islands off the West Cork coastline\, Whiddy lies in Bantry Bay between the Beara and Sheep’s Head peninsulas. \nRun| Whiddy Island\nYou’ll cross over on the Whiddy Island ferry to the starting line\, and the run will take place in two waves\, covering a mixed terrain 5k route with a 600m cross-country element. \nAfter your run\, you’ll kayak back across Bantry Bay in double kayaks. (You will only be timed for the periods in which you are participating in the race. Your time will be paused while you are in transition between race sections). \n \nKayak | Bantry Bay Blueway\nYou’ll be covering a 1\,500m stretch of the Bantry Bay Blueway\, a fantastic new zone designed to get everybody out onto the waters of one of the world’s most famous and scenic bays. Try not to get distracted by the view! \n \nCycle | The Sheep’s Head Peninsula\nThe Sheep’s Head peninsula might be most famous as a destination for walkers keen to hike the Sheep’s Head Way. But it’s home to a fantastic cycle route too. On the third leg of the Bantry Bay Adventure Race\, you’ll strike out from Bantry and down the peninsula towards Gearhies. \nIt’s a 22.8km cycle route with 219 metres of elevation. \nOn the return journey\, you’ll get to look back over the terrain you’ve conquered as the views open alongside you over Bantry Bay and Whiddy Island. \n \nIf the weather is against us …\nPlan B:\nIf wind conditions prevent the passage from Whiddy Island to Bantry\, then the kayak route will see your travel along the Whiddy Island Blueway in sheltered bay areas. Athletes will then await the return of all wave competitors to a neutralized area. They will then be ferried over to the bike transition area to conclude the race. \nPlan C:\nIf in the unlikely event that neither Plan A or B are possible\, then athletes will complete the run on Whiddy Island and all athletes will be ferried to Bantry Abbey Pier for a 1\,500m kayak in the direction of the local airstrip and back to the bike transition area to conclude the race. \nSo\, barring an apocalypse\, we’re good!\nDon’t forget to pre-register! \n\n\nFAQs\n\n\nLooking forward to taking part in the Bantry Bay Adventure Race? We’ve gathered together the information you’ll need before you register. \nIf you have any further questions after reading our FAQs\, please don’t hesitate to contact us on email at info@bantrybayadventurerace.com or our Facebook page! \nEvent Sign-In\nIf you are a registered event participant\, you will be able to pick up your event number\, timing chip\, and any other info you require at the Abbey Pier\, Bantry\, on the day of the race from 7:00 – 8:45am. You should place your race number on your outfit\, front and rear\, with the pins we provide. \nWave 1 entrants must register between 7am and 8am\, and Wave 2 before 8.45am. Registration will take place in an office on Bantry’s Abbey Pier (Our registration will be clearly marked as you approach Bantry on the N71). \nStart Time\nChoose the set-off time that suits you best. Participants will be setting off in two waves\, and the team event will start with wave 1. Solo participants can choose a wave time. You will need to pick your wave at the point of registration (no option will remain if one wave is already full). \nThe first wave will take the 8:30am ferry across from Bantry to Whiddy Island. Running will start at 9am. \nThe second wave will leave Bantry at 9:30am for a 10:00am run start. \nThe ferry price is included in your entry fee. A return ferry is also included for the team runners and this will return to the mainland after all ten runners reach the finish line (all teams are registered in the first wave). \nSolo Participants\nChoose your wave start time – 9am or 10am – during registration. Double sit-on-top kayaks will be available for participants. Individual competitors will be in double sit-on-top kayaks. Times will be paused at the end of the run\, resuming when you join the kayak section of the race with the nearest available run finisher. While there is bound to be some unevenness in people’s skills\, it is a test of teamwork and co-operation above all else! \nOnly 140 slots are available\, so book early! \nRelay Teams\nTo enter as a relay team\, you must register as a mixed-gender team of three in Wave 1 (Wave 2 will not be an option for teams). You decide who runs\, kayaks\, cycles. The person who runs on Whiddy and the kayaker will need to take the ferry trip over to the island. The kayaker will be assigned a single-person kayak. Your third team member\, who will cycle for your relay team\, will need to stay on the mainland. They will join the race at the transition point at Bantry’s Abbey Pier. \nParticipants completing the running and kayaking section of the event will get the ferry for the first wave from Whiddy. \nSingle sit-on-top kayaks will ONLY be available for the kayaking stage of the team event. \nThere are 20 team slots available for the Bantry Bay Adventure Race 2017. \nBoth team and solo event participants MUST sign in at the Abbey Pier the morning of the event to collect event number and timing chip. Each competitor must complete the prescribed distance in each discipline one after the other in the designated order. \nAdventure Race Prizes\nPrizes will be awarded in each category (men’s\, women’s\, and team) as follows:\n€150 Edge Sports Shop Vouchers – First Place\n€100 Edge Sports Shop Vouchers – Second Place\n€50 Edge Sports Shop Vouchers – Third Place \nFerry Arrangements\nThe ferry price is included in the entry\, and you will need to board the ferry at the time specified for your wave (8:30am or 9:30am) at the Abbey Pier. SUMMARY:Off The Bloom
DESCRIPTION:On the 17th of August 2019\, Offaly will host it’s only multi-sport adventure race. Set in the picturesque village of Kinnitty at the foothills of the Slieve Bloom Mountains\, Kinnitty will provide the backdrop to the start and finish of the Off The Bloom Adventure Race. \nOver the course of the race\, competitors will take in the breath taking views of the Irish midlands while hiking/running\, kayaking and biking their way through the natural peat-lands bogs and rolling mountain ranges of the Slieve Blooms mountains. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe have no doubt the Adventure Race will be a great success and more importantly will enhance and promote Kinnitty as an adventure tourist destination in mid Ireland. \n  \n\n\n\nThere are 2 categories\n\n\n\n\nSports 36.5KM \n\n500 metre run \n24 km Cycle\n5 km Mountain Run\n6.5 km Cycle\n500 meter run\n\nKinnitty is the perfect setting to kick start your Off the Bloom Adventure Race. Competitors will make a quick dash to the bike transition\, where they will safely mount their bikes and set off on the first leg of this epic one day Multi-Sport Adventure. \nCycle 1st leg\nThe 23 km cycling route takes in the breath taking views of the Midlands while passing though some of the oldest natural peatland bogs in Ireland.\nThe first 9 km takes you into Ballyboy Village. Try not to be tempted to stop at the famous Dan and Mollys thatched Public house at the corner of the village.\nDan & Molloys is the only remaining traditional thatched Public house in County Offaly and is well worth a visit\, but not during your Adventure race.\nAt Dan and Molloys Pub\, you will take a right hand turn heading for Cadamstown. Prepare for a long gradually hill climb until you reach Cadamstown.\nWhen you get to Cadamstown\, you have a flat 2 km section before you face the ascent of the Slieve Bloom Mountains.\nThis gruelling test of mind and character will challenge you to the limit on one of the oldest mountain ranges in Europe. \nRun Section\nHaving conquered the Blooms\, Competitors will rack their bikes in the transition area locally known as the Lime Kiln. Your 5 km trail run/hike brings you deep into the belly of Glenregan forest.\nPlease be advised to wear trail runners. This run is mainly on fireroads\, but expect a few surprises along the way. \nCycle 2nd Leg\nOnce you have completed the demanding 5 km trail run\, you arrive back at transition to tackle the last section of the race.\nThis 6.5 km cycle brings you back down the side of the mountain into Kinnitty village. This part of the race is very technical and will require you to feather your brakes at certain stages.\nPlease observe the instructions of the marshals and be prepared to stop at the T-junction in Kinnitty Village.\nWhen you arrive back to Kinnitty village\, rack your bike and sprint the final 500 metres to the finishing line\, remembering to smile to the waiting Off the Bloom official photographer. \nElite 70KM \n\n500 metre run\n23 km cycle\n1 km Kayak\n26 km cycle\n12 km Mountain Run/Hike\n6.5 km cycle\n500 meter run\n\nNot for the faint hearted\, the Off the Bloom Elite course is intended to challenge the seasoned adventurer. Setting out at the iconic Kinnitty Castle\, competitors will sprint to their bikes making their way to Pallas Lake. \nCycle 1st leg\n\nThis 22 km route will pass through the historic peatland bogs until you get to Ballyboy village. Try not to be tempted to stop at the famous Dan and Mollys thatched Public house at the corner of the village.\nDan and Molloys is the only remaining traditional thatched Public house in County Offaly and is well worth a visit\, but not during your Adventure race.\nYou will continue on through the hinterland of Erry and through the village of Mountbolus before reaching Pallas Lake. \nKayak section\nWhen you arrive at Pallas Lake\, you will rack your bike where the safety crew will hand out buoyancy aids. The Kayak section is a 1Km loop of the lake under the supervision of the water safety crew. \nCycle 2nd leg\n\nThis is by far the toughest part of the Elite cycle. The cycle route brings you back through the villages of Mountbolus and Ballyboy.\nAt Dan and Molloys Pub in Ballyboy\, you will take a left hand turn heading for Cadamstown.\nPrepare for a long gradually hill climb until you reach Cadamstown.\nWhen you get to Cadamstown\, you have a flat 2 km section before you face the ascent of the Slieve Bloom Mountains.\nThis gruelling test of mind and character will challenge you to the limit on one of the oldest mountains ranges in Europe. \nRun Section\nHaving conquered the Blooms\, Competitors will rack their bikes in the transition area locally known as the Lime Kiln. Your 12Km trail run/hike brings you deep into the belly of Glenregan forest and then go off road climbing to the top of the mountain.\nPlease be advised to wear trail runners. This run is mainly on fireroads\, but expect a few surprises enroute. \nCycle 3rd Leg\nOnce you have completed the demanding 10 km trail run\, you arrive back at transition to tackle the last section of the race.\nThis 6.5 km cycle brings you back down the side of the mountain into Kinnitty village.
