DESCRIPTION:The BlackStairs Adventure race is a race you don’t want to miss with something for everyone including the family. We promise you a value for money event at a high standard in a beautiful location spanning the Carlow\, Wexford and Kilkenny borders. \nThe BlackStairs Adventure Race takes place on Sun 30th April 2017 it is an adventure race with a difference in that we aim to cater for the athlete and their family. We want to ensure all our competitors enjoy the challenge at an affordable price without all the hidden extras\, if you’re fed up of forking out for expensive entry fees then this is the race for you as we will provide a high standard race that should attract elite to beginner adventure racers at a very affordable cost. \nTHE SEVEN BLACK STEPS\nThis is the most challenging series of stages or steps as we like to call them. See details of route below \n \n\nBohereen Run\, Wood Trail and Mountain Run 10.5km\nShort Cycle to Kayak area 9km\n3km Kayak on the Barrow River\n25km Cycle with some tough climbs and sharp bends\nBlackstairs Mountain Run 6km\nSprint cycle mainly flat 11 km\nRun to finish line 1km\n\n  \n\nTHE FIVE BLACK STEPS\nThis is the easier course yet quite challenging in every respect. \n \n\n Bohereen Run\, Wood Trail and Mountain Run 10.5km\nShort Cycle to Kayak area 9km\n3km Kayak on the Barrow River\n23km Cycle with some tough climbs and sharp bends\nRun to finish line 1km\n\n\nTHE THREE BLACK STEPS\nThis is the easiest course which does not include a kayak but yet a great introduction to an adventure race.\nPlease note the exact course length may vary slightly. \n\nBohereen Run\, Wood Trail and Mountain Run 11km\n15km Cycle – relatively flat\nRun to finish line .5km\n\n\nREGISTRATION\nSTRICTLY NO ONLINE OR OFFLINE REGISTRATION AFTER THE 28TH OF APRIL – NO ENTRIES ALLOWED ON THE DAY\nPlease arrive at least an hour before your event start time and please park as instructed by our parking stewards. \nSAT 29TH APRIL BETWEEN 6.00PM – 8.00PM FOR 3 STEPS\, 5 STEPS AND 7 STEPS\nSUN 30TH APRIL BETWEEN 7.00AM – 9.00AM FOR 7 STEPS\nSUN 30TH APRIL BETWEEN 7.00AM – 9.30AM FOR 5 STEPS\nSUN 30TH APRIL BETWEEN 9.00AM – 11.00AM FOR 3 STEPS\nOnline Registration will close on April 28th at Midnight or earlier if our limit is reached. \nEvent Registration and Number pick up will take place in Rathnure GAA Hurling Arena. When you register you will receive your race number\, timing dib\, goody bag and event running top \nRegistrations will not be accepted on the day and t-shirts or goody bags will not be guaranteed for late entrants\, please check our website or facebook page www.facebook.com/blackstairsadventurerace to avoid disappointment. \nPlease do not forget to wear your timing dib\, dibs must be returned at the end of the reace to get a print out of your times. \nBIKE DROP\n\n\nPlease note you can drop your bikes before or after registering in Rathnure to facilitate those coming from different directions. Please make sure to give yourself enough time to drop your bike and register and be in Rathnure in time for your race. \nIt is IMPORTANT that your bike is ready to go before you arrive at the Bike drop off\, nutrition and hydration products already attached etc. The bike drop off is as it says\, a drop off area ONLY. Cycling gear can be left with your bike in the bike transition but must be securely attached to your bike such as your cycling shoes or helmet which is mandatory. Anyone without a bicycle helmet will be disqualified on the day. \nNote the 3 steps Bike Drop is close to Rathnure \, the 5 and 7 steps bike Drop is near Ballymurphy. At the bike drop area you will receive a bike race number\, please affix your bike race number sticker to your bike so that you can easily identify it during the race. You will be allocated a Zone for yor bike. Please be aware of other competitors bikes and take care when placing your bike on the bike racks. Security will be present at the bike drop area at all times. \nIt is important to note that when you leave the bike transition area on race day you must take everything with you\, NOTHING can be left in the bike transition area on race day anyone found leaving garmets or litter in this area will be disqualified. \n7 BLACK STEPS BIKE DROP\nSUN 30TH APRIL BETWEEN 7.00AM – 9.00AM\n5 BLACK STEPS BIKE DROP\nSUN 30TH APRIL BETWEEN 7.00AM – 10.00AM\nThe Bike Drop area for 7 Black Steps and 5 Black Steps is located close to Ballymurphy approx 20 minutes drive from Rathnure. Signs will guide you to the bike drop area. At the bike drop area you will receive a bike race number\, please affix your bike race number sticker to your bike so that you can easily identify it during the race. Security will be present at the bike drop area at all times. Note: It is possible to drop your bike prior to registration if you are coming from that direction. \nFor additional directions please see www.blackstairsadventurerace.com/Home/Directions \nGPS CO-ORDINATES FOR 7/5 STEPS BIKE DROP N52 32.814 W006 51.525\nDIRECTIONS FROM THE BALLYMURPHY BIKE DROP TO RATHNURE GAA GROUNDS\nYou will take a right turn coming out of the Bike Drop Area\, proceed towards Ballymurphy Village. Take a right turn in the village heading for Kiltealy drive straight then take a right turn at the Thatch pub in Kiltealy. Proceed along this road heading in the direction of Killanne. Staying on the main road drive through Killanne crossroads and continue on 2 miles to Rathnure village. In Rathnure village take a left after Conrans furniture at the Graveyard. Continue up the road past the school to the GAA grounds on the right. \nDIRECTIONS FROM THE RATHNURE GAA GROUNDS TO BALLYMURPHY BIKE DROP\nYou will take a left turn coming out of the Rathnure GAA Grounds. At the Graveyad T junction take a right turn and proceed through Rathnure Village and continue on to Killanne go straight through Killanne in the direction of Kiltealy. I the middle of Kiltealy village take a left turn at the Thatch pub heading for Borris/Ballymurphy. Continue striaght to Ballymurphy village. In Ballymurphy village take a left at the shop. Continue straight along this road the bike drop area is a mile or so on the left hand side. There will be signage to direct you. \nFor additional directions please see www.blackstairsadventurerace.com/Home/Directions \n\n\n3 BLACK STEPS BIKE DROP\nSUN 30TH APRIL BETWEEN 9.00AM – 11.00AM\nThe Bike Drop area for 3 Black Steps is located about 5 mins drive from Rathnure at Grange Lane. \nGPS CO-ORDINATES FOR 3 STEPS BIKE DROP N52 30.381 W006 47.062\nDIRECTIONS FROM RATHNURE TO THE 3 STEPS BIKE DROP\nComing from the GAA grounds in Rathnure\, take a left down by the school at the first t-junction head right for Rathnure village and continue straight after about half a mile or more take a left at the cross roads heading for Monks Grange/Grange Upper. Take a left at the next t-junction and the bike drop is down the road about a half mile on the left hand side. \nSigns will guide you to the bike drop area. At the bike drop area you will receive a bike race number\, please affix your bike race number sticker to your bike so that you can easily identify it during the race. Security will be present at the bike drop area at all times. \n\n\nKAYAK DROP FOR ANYONE BRINGING THEIR OWN\nAnyone bringing their own Kayaks must notify us in advance\, please contact support@blackstairsadventurerace.com or Michael on 08764830320 \nKayaks MUST be dropped to Graiguenemanagh after 8.30am on the morning of the race. You will need a buoyancy aid and kayak helmet. SUMMARY:Clare Island Adventure Race
DESCRIPTION:EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT: Register in January for a reduction of 10% on all entry fees.\nNow in its 5th year\, the Clare Island Adventure Race 2017 is set to take place on Saturday\, 29th April over the May bank Holiday. \nWhile you’re primary focus in on the race\, let’s first take a look at the island itself and why you should participate in this race and immerse yourself in Clare Island. \nThe race starts and after party begins at Go Explore Hostel & Sailor’s Bar which offers single beds in en-suite dorms or rooms of 6 or 8 which can be booked by groups. The bed night rate is €24 per person including a light breakfast. Visit www.goexplorehostel.ie for more info or call 098 26307 to make a reservation. \nThe Race\nThis event will appeal to both experienced and novice adventure racers. There are two options. First for the experienced racer. The full course will be the perfect warm-up race for a busy season ahead. With the climb of Knockmore\, this race is no picnic and will present a serious challenge even to seasoned adventurers. For those who might not be back in shape after the winter – or for beginners – the Spirit Race omits the climb of Knockmore\, and has a shorter cycle\, making it very doable although still reasonably challenging. It is also very affordable at just €45 for the full race and €35 for the shorter race. \nTHE COURSE  (Start time: 1.00pm)\n\nBreakdown of Full Race distances:\n\nRun – 5 km\nCycle – 13.6 km\nRun / Climb – 5 km\nDash to finish – 0.5 km (incl. beach obstacle course)\nTotal – 24.10 km\n\nBreakdown of Spirit Race distances:\n\nRun – 5 km\nCycle – 9.5 km\nDash to finish – 0.5 km (incl. beach obstacle course)\nTotal – 15 km\n\nStage 1 – Capnagower / Fawnglass loop run (5 km)\nStart at Go Explore Hostel & run along tarmac road with a small piece of green road\, wet in areas\, and back to hostel. \nStage 2 – The Gravel Pit cycle (5.5 km)                                  \nStart at Go Explore Hostel & cycle along tarmac road to the gravel pit situated at the foot of Knockmore. \nStage 3 – The Knockmore Mountain climb (5 km)\nStart at Gravel Pit & run along green road for 1km before beginning the mountain climb from circa 100m to 460m and back down the same way to the Gravel Pit. \nStage 4 – The Church Gate cycle (8.1 km)              \nStart at Gravel Pit & cycle along tarmac roads through the Church Gate and along the westerly side of the island to complete the Clare Island circuit & back to the harbour. \nStage 5 – Walk the Plank / Beach Challenge / Dash to the Finish (0.5 km)   \nRun from the bike drop off to the old pier where you walk the plank off the pier into the water and swim / wade back to the beach (swim / wade less than 15m). Navigate through the beach activities before the final 200m dash to the hostel and the finish. (Note – All participants can bypass “Walk the Plank” however this will result in a 2 minute penalty). \nMANDATORY KIT\n\nGuide Map (provided by organisers at registration)\nEnergy food and drink\nCycle gear: bike\, bike tool kit\, puncture repair kit and cycle helmet*\nWindproof / waterproof jacket\nSturdy walking / running shoes with good grip essential\n\n* This is the mandatory cycling kit and can be left with your bike in the transition. ALL other mandatory kit MUST be carried with you during the race. \nADDITIONAL INFORMATION\n\nTiming carried out by Core Timing\nBIKE – All of the bike section of the race is on tarmac roads however some of the roads are in disrepair with some areas having grass growing on the road. There are some very steep ascents and descents on route with some sharp turns immediately at the foot of some steep descents. It is an absolute necessity to have excellent brakes and tyres with excellent grip. Off road bike is reccomended.\nThe run / climb sections of the race bring you through some of the most beautiful countryside in the country with spectacular views spanning the entire Clew Bay area from the Killary Fjord\, Mweelrea Mountain\, Croagh Patrick\, Westport\, Mulranny and Achill Island.\nAny person found littering will be immediately disqualified.\nCaution: Always obey the rules of the road. Watch the road for markings of areas of special risk (please note that these markings do not identify all areas of risk). Wear suitable shoes for downhill\, wet\, off road conditions.\nCompetitors must check in with the marshal at each transition point identified on the map.\nThis event will become part of a calendar of race events throughout the year on Clare Island. Hosted by the Sailor’s Bar which is gaining a solid reputation as a rocking venue for live music.
