Kayaking: 0.5km max \n  \nTHE DETAILED BREAKDOWN:\n\n\n\n\nSTAGE 1: RUN (8KM) \nHalf of the run is on the road and half is off-road on a rough trail. The race starts with the road run along the N59 towards Leenane village. This is a combination of downhill and flat. You will then join the rough trail (part of the Western Way) to make your way back to Killary Adventure Centre. This part of the run is uphill. The final 500m is across bog land. \nSTAGE 2: CYCLE (16KM) \nThe cycling section takes in 2 types of terrain. Half of the track is Coillte forest track and the other along sealed roads. We say sealed roads but this is Connemara so do not expect smooth\, flat\, pothole-free roads! For information on what bike to use read our FAQ section. \n\n\nSTAGE 3: RUN & KAYAK (2KM) \nThere is a short run to the kayaks\, through bog land initially and then onto a rough track 1.5km.\nThe kayaks will be 2 person sit-on-tops so grab a partner (the next competitor to you if racing alone) and take to the Killary Fjord. You will kayak approximately 0.5km in a loop. \nSTAGE 4:RUN (1KM) \nAfter the kayak section there is a short trail run back to Killary Adventure Centre and the finish line. \nADVENTURE DUATHLON – 24KM\nStage 1 and Stage 2 only. Let us convince you otherwise with 5 very good reasons why we think you can: \n\n\n\n\n1. Less than 10km of running/walking – This is a do-able distance\, especially if you start training right now\, today. \n2. Cycle for pleasure – Ok 16km sounds like a terribly long way and you have just been running but you know what\, the relief you feel when you get on the bike is a great boost to the spirit. \nFor more information on bike choice for the Women’s Adventure Races go to our Race FAQs \n3. The kayak course is short and looped – You are never far from the shore and you will have a buddy in the kayak with you \nOnce again in 2017 – choose to do the ADVENTURE DUATHLON  and you will be skipping the kayak section but still completing a super challenge! \n4. You fit the profile of an adventure racer – Yes you do\, believe it or not. All you have to do is convince yourself. \n5. Most important reason: the life-changing reason – This is often different for everyone and at last year’s race we saw this reason on so many faces. \nNeed more convincing? Read our First Timers Blog and you will be there! \nRESULTS & REPORTS\n\nTrophies for 1st\, 2nd and 3rd place and free entry into next year’s race for 1st place. \nTrophy for 1st place in the Adventure Duathlon. \nTrophies for category winners (Vets & Super-Vets) \nAnd of course a whole heap of pride and glory!
