Sprint distance means you have nothing to fear yet you will still be tested. \nSTAND-ALONE SPRINT RACE\nUnique event with only one distance for all competitors. You are all in this together and your achievement is not surpassed by anyone else’s. \nTRAIL AND MOUNTAIN RUNNING OR WALKING; CYCLING AND KAYAKING (OPTONAL)\nDiscover the natural and varied terrain of Connemara as you make your way through dramatic valleys\, quiet forests and hills reflected in still water. Killary Fjord provides the most stunning backdrop to your adventure challenge. \nADVENTURE DUATHLON – 29KM\nStay on dry land – same superb course just no kayaking \n \n\nTHE BREAKDOWN OF DISCIPLINE DISTANCES WITHIN THE 32.5KM TOTAL COURSE\n1. Running/walking: 14.5km approx     2. Cycling: 17km approx      3. Kayaking: 1km max \n\n\n\n\nTHE DETAILED BREAKDOWN:\nSTAGE 1  RUN/WALK (10KM)\n10km run from Killary Adventure Centre starting on the road and then along a rough\, rocky trail section of the Western Way. \nSTAGE 2 MOUNTAIN CLIMB (2KM)\nThe climb is up one of the foothills of the Maam Turks to an elevation of 342m and the reward of stunning views. This is bog land with soft ground and long grass. \nSTAGE 3 CYCLING (17KM)\nThe first 8km is over rough forestry tracks coming out into the Inagh valley. The next 9km is on sealed roads\, this is Connemara though so do not expect smooth\, flat\, pothole-free roads! For information on what bike to use read our FAQ section. \nSTAGE 4 RUN/KAYAK/RUN (3.5KM)\nThe run to the kayaking area is across bog land to begin with and then on to a rough track to the water (approximately 1.5km). The kayaks will be 2 person sit-on-tops. You will take to the Killary Fjord with another competitor and kayak approx 1km around a looped course. DESCRIPTION:What Is Quest Betws-y-Coed?\n\nPart of the new UK Quest Adventure Series\, with the first event taking place on 12th May 2018. Racers will test their ability with a choice of 3 demanding and scenic routes through the breath-taking Snowdonia National Park. \nEmbark on a physically grueling journey and be part of the Quest Betws Y Coed Adventure Race. We’ll take you on a demanding adventure through the spectacular and of Snowdonia Forest Park. \nQuest BETWS Y COED is a one-day multi adventure sport race and is part of the Quest Adventure Series UK. The race involves running\, cycling and kayaking across the spectacular mountains\, valleys and lakes of Snowdonia Forest Park. Choose from 3 challenging routes\, in one of the most epic location in Wales- Mini 25km\, Sport 42km and the Expert 53km.\nThis race gives competitors the chance to run\, cycle and kayak some of the most dramatic\, breath taking and remote scenery in the world. \nWhen\n12th of May 2018 \nWhere\nBetyws Y Coed\, Wales \nRegistration will open on September 28th 2017 \nROUTE INFORMATION & PRECAUTIONS\n\nThe Quest Betws Y Coed team has put together a route that is both challenging and inspiring incorporating the rugged welsh landscape and breath taking scenery. \nThere are 3 different route options:\nExpert 53k – Sport 42k – Mini 25k \nPrecautions\nCompetitors undertake Quest Betws Y Coed Adventure Race at their own risk. \nPlease familiarise yourself with the route maps\, race briefing document and the areas on the route where care must be taken. Turn left before you enter the village in the direction of Llyn Geirionydd Lake. On this stage you will encounter steep fast downhill cycling with sharp corners as you negotiate your way through this challenging section. \nTerrain: Sealed road\, varying in quality. \n\nStage 3: Kayak – 1km \nDescription: Kayak a circular route around the spectacular clear waters of Glyn Geirionydd Lake on double sit on top kayaks. \nRestrictions: Competitors cannot bring their own Kayaks they must use the provided double sit on top kayaks & paddles. The buoyancy aid must be worn at all times. \n\nStage 4: Trail Run – 11km \nDescription:\nAfter the kayak competitors follow a marked trail anti clockwise around Clyn Crafnant and back to the kayak transition area.\nCompetitors will embrace the panoramic views across the Snowdonia Forest Park. \nTerrain: Walking trail\, stone path\, forest track\, mountain track of good to rough quality with slippery muck and rock sections. \n\nStage 5: Cycle – 15km\nDescription: You will proceed to cycle from the kayak transition area back to the Betws y Coed area. \nTerrain: Sealed road\, varying in quality. \n\nStage 6: Trail Run – 7km \nDescription: Competitors will drop their bikes at the transition area and continue by foot along a marked trail.
