DESCRIPTION:This year The Beast will take on scenic County Donegal\, which includes parts of the rugged wilderness that the vast Wild Atlantic Way has to offer. \nAfter years roaming the mountains of Ballyhoura and surrounding counties\, the Beast has grown too big to contain and has broken free. The Beast has threaten to return to haunt it’s old home\, but for now the entire island of Ireland is now its domain as it looks for the most unique and challenging experiences for all those brave enough to attempt the race. \nThe team who brought you the European Adventure racing finals in 2015 is back togther to bring you one of Europes finest expedition adventure races. \nPrepare to meet your demons during this event designed to push each team to their limits. (cycle computers exempt)\nMobile phones\, radios\, other communications or internet access devices etc.(excluding the compulsory emergency phone sealed prior to the race).\nMaps other than those provided by the organisers (specifically from race start to crossing the finish line).\nFirearms\, night/ nocturnal vision devices.\nFins during any swim section.\nSails during any kayak section.\n\nKIT BAGS & TRANSPORT\nA net bag will be supplied to each team for wet gear (wet suits etc.). These will be transported to the transitions areas of the race. Exact details will be contained in the race booklet which you will get when you sign on for the event. \nEach team member will need to supply their own sturdy duffel bag (if possible a waterproof one) to carry general kit like dry clothes\, change of shoes\, tent etc. We will transport these bags. \nBIKES\nAll 4 team members will need a mountain bike in good working order; it will be your teams call on what type of tyres and pedals you use on each of them. The route will use a wide verity of surfaces from good roads to man-made single track trails. If you choose to use SPD’s you may have to carry your own running shoes at some stage. Rear lights must be fitted at all times and used during poor weather and night. \nKAYAKING\nWe will supply and transport all kayaks\, paddles and buoyancy aids. Kayaks used will be 2 person sit-on-tops. Teams may bring their own backrests and paddles if they want\, these need to be clearly marked with your team number. \n\nEvent Disciplines\n\n\n\n\nMountain biking\nTeams should be prepared for a range of riding including single track\, steep hills\, gravel roads and sealed roads. \n\n\n\n\nTrekking\nWill involve travelling by foot through rugged and diverse terrain. The Irish hills can be wet and boggy in places. \n\n\n\n\nRopeWork\nCould include abseiling\, traversing\, ascending etc. \n\n\n\n\nSwimming\nteams will be required to cross rivers\, lakes or coastal sections. For swim sections all members of each team must swim\, PFD’s will be available if you feel you need one\, and may be mandatory on some sections. \n\n\n\nKayaking\nkayaks will be provided by race organizers. Kayaking may be on inland rivers\, sea or lakes. Generally kayaking will be permitted during both day and night. Some of the rivers may have weirs. Teams will be advised in advance about any obstacles. \n\n\n\n\nOrienteering\norienteering is an extremely important part of the race. The course is not marked and teams are required to navigate using maps. \n\n\n\n\nSpecial\nas always you should expect some surprises\, and special tasks \n\nEvent Mapping\n\nTeams will get one full set of maps which will be A3 in size and have the control points overprinted onto them\, with the aid of the route book which will contain all relevant route information teams will have to plot their route between control points except in some cases where we will have a mandatory route already marked.\nWaterproofing of main race maps is essential and is the teams responsibility\nStationary to prepare route on map is needed. Different colours pens\, tape\, scissors etc.\nMaps will not be replaced if team misplaces maps\n\nOrdnance Survey Ireland\nThe Beast is priviledged to use some of the best maps in the world thanks to the wonderful people at Ordnance Surney Ireland. OSI will be providing the main race maps\, these will be 1:50000 scale. (Discovery Series). Samples and details of these maps can be found on the Ordance Survey Ireland website \n\nOrienteering Maps\nTeams will also be supplied with local orienteering maps during certain sections of the event these will be overprinted with controls and waterproofed. It starts at Gallonray House with a 16K cycle to the bike transition and start of the 5K Run \nRun 5K \nRun 5Kto the Kayak transition on a road and trail run route. \nKAYAK 2K \nKayak on a sit-in or sit on top Kayak around the edge of Barnagrow lake passing through the Crannóg Islands back to the entry point. \nRUN 1K \n1K run from the Kayak transition to the Bike transition. \nBIKE 27K \nOn completing the 1K run from the Kayak \, you return to the Bike transition to complete a 27K mainly flat route back to Gallonray House. \nRUN 7K \nThe final leg of the Cavan Kayakarun Supreme Body Tester race is a 7K Tramac and trail run after racking your bike at Gallonray House to complete the last challenge before crossing the finish line. \n  \nTHE CAVAN KAYAKARUN BODY TESTER – 41k\nBIKE 16K \nThe Cavan Kayakarun Challenge starts at Gallonray House with a 16K cycle to the Bike transition. \nRUN 5K \nAfter racking your bike\, complete a 5K run on tarmac and trail run to the Kayak transition. \nKAYAK 1K \nOn completing the 5k run\, you arrive at the Kayak transition where you Kayak on a sit-in or sit on top kayak going around the Crannóg Island and back to the entry point. \nRUN 1K \n1K run from the Kayak transition back to the bike transition. \nBIKE 18K \nCycle 18K on a mainly flat course back to Gallonray House. \n500m Dash to Finish \nOn arriving back to Gallonray House\, rack your bike and complete an easy 500 metre run crossing the finish line. \n  \nTHE CAVAN KAYAKARUN MINI/JUNIOR BODY TESTER – 13k\nRace Details: \nCYCLE 5K \nCycle 5K to Bike transition. \nRUN 1K \nRack your bike and run 1K to the Kayak transition. \nKayak 500 Metres \nKayak a 500 Metre course close to the shore of the lake. \nRUN 1K \nRun 1K form the Kayak back to the Bike transition. \nCycle 5K \nCycle 5K back to the finish at Gallonray House. \n500m Dash \nDismount your Bike and jog an easy 500m to the finish line. \n Additional Notes: \nThe MINI/JUNIOR Event begins at 1:45pm after the senior events. There was a lot of talk about the recession and a general atmosphere of doom and gloom. The lads and lassies put their heads together and decided they would create a Fun Adventure Race event for the silly season\, to give people in the local community a lift and an active focus for the summer. Everyone had an interest in sport\, more friends were contacted and The Cavan Kayakarun was born. It was initially meant to be for the local group of friends. However\, it was decided to advertise and  the newly dubbed Adventure Race had 250 people of all ages from 16 to 80 take part in 2010. 350 participated in 2011 and over 400 enjoyed the event on a sunny Saturday in 2012. \nThe Cavan Kayakarun Adventure Race aims to get people of all ages and levels of fitness involved in sporting outdoor activity .We want you to remember it as all about fun\, participation\, achieving your goal of finishing the circuit and enjoying the elation and delight of crossing the finish line\, at the end. We aim to provide a safe friendly environment\, where all the family can enjoy the day and excellent local amenities will be utilized. During the run you will encounter ‘Pepper’s Brae’\, I have heard people following the event refer to it as tough however it is a huge sense of achievement crossing peppers and seeing the site of the lake and kayaks below as you head to transition 1. This is a testing course but for the fun runners the distance is not excessive as the distance is 5 km The run is on tarmac. \nThe Kayak stage takes place in a natural lake and circulates a small crannog where ancient settlers once lived. The average time for the Kayak section is 10 – 15 minutes for the 1k distance. \nThe cycle section is 18Km for The Cavan Kayakarun Body Tester and is a reasonably pleasant cycle on tarmac and is well marshalled. Those who enter The Cavan Kayakarun Supreme Body Tester will undertake two cycling stages of 16k and later 27k cycle on a more testing circuit\, where the cyclists will travel up and through one of the largest wind-farms in Ireland and will experience some of the finest scenery in the county – but you may not have a lot of time to take it all in! The surface is smooth tarmac.The roads used are reasonably quiet and free from large volumes of traffic. \n  \nCan anyone take part? \nThe answer is yes. The event is all about fun and taking part. We have a longer more challenging course The Cavan Kayakarun Supreme Body Tester for those who want to test themselves even more. The event has two separate cycle and kayak routes  tailored to suit all levels of fitness with the Supreme route taking place over a longer more difficult course. The Cavan Kayakarun Body Tester is a fun event for all the Family \n  \nIs it a safe event? \nConsiderable planning into the safety of the event is paramount. The event routes are carefully selected and marshalled. These Marshalls are trained and well briefed on their responsibilities but it is of utmost importance to the athlete to understand that the road sections of the event are open to the public and the rules of the road should be strictly adhered to. \nMonaghan Sub aqua unit will be in attendance on the lake along with safety personnel in Kayaks and boats \nThere is a briefing session  prior to the race at Gallonray House . \n  \nCan you tell me where the race starts from? \nThe Body Tester and Supreme Body Tester races start and finish for all adults from Gallonray House\, Maudabawn Cootehill \,County Cavan. Please find the cordinates on the home page. Note: shower and dining facilities available. \nThe Junior Kayakarun starts at Lough Barnagrove at 12:00 mid-day prior to the adult’s event start time. Juniors should first call to Gallonray House to register for the event prior to the event start. \n  \nWhat are the check in / registration times? \nRegistration takes place on Friday night the 10th August the night before the race between 7 – 9pm in Gallonray House Maudabawn and on Saturday morning 11th August  (race day) between 10am-11.30 am also in Gallonray House. It is very important that registration takes place during these times as there will be no opportunity to check in after this. Bikes should be placed at the transition 2 point\, after you have registered and picked up your race number. Return and park at Gallonray House starting point. This should take approx. 20 mins in total. \n  \nWhere and when is the race party? \nThe official Cavan Kayakrun race party takes place the evening of the event in Gallonray house\,this is now established as one of the biggest nights of the year in Gallonray with top live bands into the early hours. Live music\, hot food buffet and entertainment are available for participants and spectators alike. This is a great night’s fun with great stories of heroics and new friends to be made. Remember there is ample accommodation in the local area for anyone wishing to stay over on either night of the weekend. Please have a look at the accommodations section for further details. Taxi service will be available. \n  \nWhat time is the prize giving? \nDirectly after the conclusion of the race and the junior race\, prices will be given out at the conclusion of their race. \n  \nCan I take part in the event and raise money for charity? \nYes\, we have no problem in you raising money for needy causes or your chosen charity. We do advise however that you collect for a registered charity and that you will have the correct permits and are covered by legislation with respect to fundraising when using the Cavan Kayakarun Brand. \n  \nIs there any merchandise available to purchase? \nYes: Quality running t-shirts will also be available with the Cavan Kayakarun logo – cost €15. \n  \nWhere do I see the map information? \nMap information is on the website and a copy will be also available on registration and on-line once obtained. \n  \nHave you more information on the Kayaks and can I bring my own? \nYou may bring your own kayak or you may use one of the kayaks provided by the organisers.There will be sit-on and sit-in single Kayaks provided. \n  \nDo I need to have previous experience in Kayaking? \nThe event organisers have sit-in and sit -on single kayaks. These are designed for novice kayakers. \nWe would advise you to avail of a kayaking lesson before the event\, it is possible to complete the kayaking course without any previous experience however you will enjoy the event much more with proper preparation. \nCheck out our links section on our website and kayaking training centres contact details are there.You can avail of one of the training sessions that will be taking place on Barnagrow lake in the weeks prior to the event. Please keep an eye on the website training section  for further details. \n  \nIs there a mandatory kit list? \nYes\, it is important to appreciate that life jackets are compulsory in the kayak\, helmets are compulsory in the cycling and all standard athletic footwear is advisable. A pair of gloves would be of benefit but not essential. \nLife jackets are provided for the kayaking however if you bring your own kayak you must bring your own life jacket. \n  \nWhere will I store my extra clothing? \nThere will be a designated area for storage of clothing / personal gear at the transition area and at the start/finish we will transport your gear from the transition back to the start/ finish and a procedure will be put in place where all property will be clearly bagged and tagged. \nOther points of information \n\nIt is advisable to arrive early on race day to familiarise yourself with the course and the transition area\nOn your arrival\, you will be free to discuss the event with any of the organising committee who will be wearing green branded t-shirts and hi-vis gear.\nComplimentary light refreshments are available  after the event.\nShower facilities are available on site at the start/finish in Gallonray house.\nHot food is available for purchase – salads\, curry\, lasagne\,teas coffees etc\nLive music that evening and a real party atmosphere\nThe event is taking place on open roads – so safety first!\nBook early to avoid disappointment as we expect over 500 participants this year!\nThis is a non-profit event run by our community for you our visitors\nEvent contact details:  Michael  087 9294263
