DESCRIPTION:WHAT IS QUEST KILLARNEY?\n\nQuest Killarney is a one day multi adventure sport race. This race gives competitors the chance to run\, hike\, cycle and kayak some of the most dramatic\, breathtaking and remote scenery in the world. \nThere are 5 challenging routes: \nRoute Breakdown\n\n\n83KM EXPERT ROUTE INFORMATIONThe race consists of the following 5 stages: \nStage 1: Cycle – 14km \nDescription: Starting at the Gleneagle Hotel you will cycle through Killarney town to Kate Kearney’s Cottage. \nTerrain: Sealed road \nFeatures: Participants will experience a new element of traversing Killarney town with a scenic\, engaging ride through Fossa and up into the Gap of Dunloe. \nStage 2: Mountain Run – 6.5km \nDescription: Starting at the base of the McGillycuddy Reeks this stage will take you through a tough steep bog mountain trail up and over Strickeen mountain. \nTerrain: Hill trail & heathen bog. \nFeatures: Stunning views of Carrantuohill\, the Gap of Dunloe\, the Lakes of Killarney and Purple mountain. \nStage 3: Road Bike – 36.5K \nDescription: Pick your bike up at Kate Kearney’s Cottage and start this amazing cycle with breathtaking views around every corner. On this stage you will encounter steep fast downhill cycling with sharp corners as you negotiate you way through this challenging section. \nTerrain: Sealed road\, varying in quality from good to gravel and potholes. \nFeatures: The Gap of Dunloe\, the Black Valley\, Molls gap\, ladies view\, Lakes of Killarney and the eagles nest to name a few. \nStage 4: Run – 0.8km \nDescription: You will run less than a km at transition to Dundag and the kayak stage. \nStage 5: Kayak – 1km \nDescription: Kayak a circular route around the spectacular clear waters of Muckross Lake on double sit on top kayaks. \nRestrictions: Competitors cannot bring their own Kayaks they must use provided double sit on top Kayaks & paddles. Buoyancy aid must be worn at all times. \nStage 6: Mangerton Mountain – 18.8km \nDescription: Starting by going under a 250 year old tunnel under the road\, competitors will ascend to Torc Waterfall and follow forest tracks to the base of Mangerton. The 9km distance includes 1km run up and back to the Kayak stage. \nTerrain: Walking trail\, stone steps\, forest track and mountain track. \nFeatures: From the viewing point you have panoramic views across the entire Killarney National Park\, the Lakes of Killarney. \nPrecautions: Trail runners are recommended. \nCut off point: Competitors who do not reach the base of the forest trail by 4pm will not be allowed to continue up to Barr na Currane. \nStage 6: Road Cycle – 5.5km \nDescription: The final short cycle stage brings you to the finish line at the Gleneagle Hotel where all competitors will be given their customised medals and t-shirts. \nTerrain: Sealed road\, varying in quality from good to gravel. \nFeatures: Muckross House and Gardens\, Ireland’s largest Oak forest. \n55KM SPORT ROUTE INFORMATION\nThe race consists of the following 4 stages: \nStage 1: Road Bike – 39km \nDescription: Starting at the Gleneagle Hotel you will cycle through Killarney town past Kate Kearney’s Cottage and on into the Gap of Dunloe\, this amazing cycle has breathtaking views around every corner. You’ll continue past Lord Brandon’s and back to Torc. On this stage you will encounter steep fast downhill cycling with sharp corners as you negotiate you way through this challenging section. \nTerrain: 35km sealed road\, varying in quality from good to gravel and potholes. 4km narrow gravel path. \nPrecautions: The cycle along the Kerry Way to Lord Brandon’s Cottage is a narrow gravel path. There is no opportunity for overtaking along this section. SUMMARY:Quest - Glendalough
DESCRIPTION:WHAT IS QUEST GLENDALOUGH?\n\nThis epic adventure involves racers running and cycling through the Wicklow Mountains National Park and Glendalough Valley as well as kayaking across the spectacular Upper Lake and finishing the race in the shadows of the monastic round tower which epitomizes the Glendalough area. \nThree challenging routes: 59k Expert\, 43km Sport and 21k Challenge. \n\n21KM CHALLENGE ROUTE INFORMATION\nThe race consists of the following 4 stages: \n \nStage 1: Cycle – 12km\nDescription: Starting after a mass start from the Laragh GAA grounds you will cycle out towards Clarabeg and take a right at Turners crossroads. \nYou descend right into the valley and after passing the picturesque Claravale Church and bridge you ascend the testing 300m long climb to join the main R755 to take you back to Laragh GAA transition area \nTerrain: Sealed road\, varying in quality from good to fair with possibility of some gravel and potholes. \nStage 2: Trail Run – 4km\nDescription: Competitors will rack their bikes at the Laragh GAA transition. From here you head out the “Green Road” walking track towards the Upper Lake pass close to the world famous Glendalough round tower and monastic heritage site. \nTerrain: Walking trail\, stone path\, forest track generally of good quality but possibility of some slippy sections \nPrecautions: Trail runners are recommended but not essential. \n \nStage 3: Kayak – 1km\nDescription: Kayak a triangular route around the spectacular clear waters of Upper Lake on sit on top kayaks. \nTerrain: Competitors cannot bring their own kayaks they must use provided sit on top kayaks & paddles. Buoyancy aids must be worn at all times. \n \nStage 4: Trail Run – 4km\nDescription: The final race stage is a short 4km run to the finish line at Laragh GAA pitch. \nAll competitors will be given their customized medal on crossing the finish line. \n43KM SPORT ROUTE INFORMATION\nThe race consists of the following 6 stages: \n \nStage 1: Cycle – 6km Description: Starting after a rolling start from the Laragh GAA pitch you will cycle up along Military road. From here you will drop you bike at the transition area in the Shay Elliot recreation area. \nTerrain: Sealed road\, varying in quality from good to fair with possibility of some gravel and potholes. \nPrecautions: The roads are not closed and are open to traffic. \n \nStage 2: Trail Run – 6km \nDescription: Competitors will drop their bikes at the Shay Elliot recreational area car park. \nBy foot you then follow a marked forest trail and then open mountain trail towards the summit of Braigue Mountain (502m) before returning to summit of Cullentra (467m) and back via mountain and forest tracks to the transition area. \nCompetitors can embrace the views of the stunning Glenmalure valley and the surrounding mountains. \nTerrain: Walking trail\, stone path\, forest track\, mountain track of good to rough quality with slippy muck and rock sections. \nPrecautions: Trail runners are highly recommended. \n \nStage 3: Cycle – 20km \nDescription: Back on your bike head you descend into the valley and turn left at the Glenmalure Lodge (Film location for “The Stag” movie) pub heading towards Greenan where you turn left and go up the final bike climb of the day past Glenmalure golf club on a section of recently laid “cream cheese” surfaced road. \nYou then descend to join the R755 and return to the transition area at Laragh GAA pitch. \nTerrain: Sealed road\, varying in quality from very good to fair with possibility of some gravel and potholes \n\nPrecautions: The roads are not closed and are open to traffic. \nStage 4: Trail Run – 6km \nDescription: Competitors will rack their bikes at the Laragh GAA transition area. You then descent into Aughavanagh and turn left to bring you back up the Brown mountain climb to the 2nd Expert transition at  \n\nNote: You will encounter steep hills and sharp bends on this section.Barnaslew parking area. \nPrecautions: The roads are not closed and are open to traffic. \nTerrain: Sealed road\, varying in quality from good to fair with possibility of some gravel and potholes \n \nStage 4: Run – 5km\nDescription: Starting at Barnaslew transition area you follow forest trail to back near the Ballinagappoge bridge from where you will follow a forest trail and then onto the open mountain to the summit Croaghanmoira mountain (High point of the course at 667m). \nFrom the summit you descend back to transition by the edge of the forest on a steep\, rough\, rocky track. \nTerrain: Walking trail\, stone path\, forest track\, mountain track with slippy muck and rock sections. \nPrecautions: Trail runners are highly recommended. \n \nStage 5: Cycle – 18km\nDescription: Back on your bike head you descend towards Greenan and the final bike climb of the day past Glenmalure golf club on a section of recently laid “cream cheese” surfaced road. \nYou then descend to join the R755 and return to the transition area at Laragh GAA pitch. \nTerrain: Sealed road\, varying in quality from very good to fair with possibility of some gravel and potholes \nPrecautions: The roads are not closed and are open to traffic. \n \nStage 6: Trail Run – 6km\nDescription: Competitors will rack their bikes at the Laragh GAA transition area. The first cut off point is 09.45am at the Glenmalure Lodge crossroads. Failure to reach this point before cut time will result in competitors being redirected onto the Sport route. The second cut off point is 11.00am at Barnaslew transition. \n\n*Please note €5.50 online booking registration fee applies to each event. If you do not receive a text please bring the e-mail confirmation you received\, when you registered online. \nYour race pack includes: \n– Timing dibber\n– Race map\n– Bib number\n– Bike sticker \nAfter the race\nFinish line\nThe race will finish in Laragh where the race started. There will be massage facilities\, hot tubs and hot food for all participants. \nBike collection\nCompetitors can collect their bikes from the secure bike racking area when they present their race bib number which will correspond with their bike sticker number. \nRace prize giving\nThe official after party\, prize giving will take place at the finish line in Laragh. \nCar parking\nYou will be directed towards the dedicated event carpark at Laragh GAA and soccer pitches by marshals and Gardaí. The course encompasses areas of special conservation\, national park and environmental sensitive bog and woodland. There are limited places available. All participants must bring their bikes to start line on Saturday morning. Your bike does not need to be racked the night before for Quest Glendalough. \nWhat type bike should I use?\nThe choice of bike is an individual choice. The most suitable bike would be a road bike with Gator Skin tyres and least suitable would be a Mountain Bike. \nDo I need any specialist equipment?\nApart from the basics (bike\, running shoes\, mandatory kit) you do not need any specialist equipment. We will provide you with a kayak\, paddle and buoyancy aid. \nDo I have to have any specialist map reading or mountain skill to compete in the race?\nNo. You will be provided with a map. The route is marked out with signs and race Marshalls will also be on hand along the route. \nWhat is your refund policy?\nWhen entering the event it is part of the terms and conditions that it is a non-refundable payment policy. \nIs there any water available along the route?\nThe exact locations of water stops will be highlighted on the map given to you at registration and will be refill only. You will be required to bring water with you for the duration of the race. \nWho provides my Kayak?\nThe event organisers will provide all kayaks\, paddles and buoyancy aid. The only time out zone where competitors can be timed out is while waiting for a kayak. The maximum amount of time allowed in the time out zone is 15 minutes.
