Boyne Adventure Race
August 27, 2017 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
| Euro45Finish the summer off with a bang at the inaugural Boyne Adventure Race on Sunday, August 27th in conjunction with Trim Salmon of Knowledge Festival brought to you by Trim Tourism Network.
This is Trim’s first multisport adventure race and the testing 32km route promises to be a brilliant introduction to multisport for novices and fast and furious for more seasoned campaigners.
Starting at 9am with a shotgun start from the shadow of Trim Castle, stage one is a 4.5km trail run around the ‘Porche fields’ passing the Yellow Steeple out to Newtown, returning through the Sheep Gate before crossing back over the rive Boyne and into transition one.
Stage 2 is a 1km kayak on the river Boyne. Sit on top kayaks, paddles and buoyancy aids are provided. The first to arrive have the option of a limited number of single kayaks or they can pair up on tandem kayaks. There is no time out here so when you arrive grab a partner and go with the flow…literally. You cannot use your own kayak and buoyancy aids are compulsory.
The kayak finish is close to Marcie Regan’s pub where the the bikes will be racked and waiting. Road bikes are best, tt bikes or aero bars are not permitted. Helmets are compulsory. Drafting is allowed.
Stage three is the first cycle section. 21km on sealed road of reasonably good quality surface. Route runs from Trim out the Longwood Road, turning left at Castletown Cross, left again in Rathmolyon, through the staggered junction at Laracor and finishing at Jack Quinn’s pub. The route is flat with just a couple of lumps before Laracor.
Stage 4 is the ‘Fatal Deviation’ quarry scramble. After racking the bike it’s back running up through a narrow country lane into a disused quarry, a location in the cult classic movie ‘Fatal Deviation’. A surprise or two await that will sap the last energy from the legs.
Stage 5 is the final 3km cycle back to Trim to the finish line at the race around Ireland gantry. Remember to smile for the camera!
After the race, show off your hard earned medal, enjoy a complimentary beer in The High Horse Bar, relax and enjoy the other events in the Salmon of Knowledge Festival and cheer on Ireland’s finest ultra cyclists as they embark on Race Around Ireland.
If you like the sound of the Boyne Adventure Race, round up the crew and head for Trim!
