| €400The name “Balor” for the event draws its inspiration from the Gaelic mythology deeply embedded in the local culture of this area of Donegal. By evoking the spirit of Balor, a legendary figure known for his power and resilience, the event aims to ignite the same sense of endurance and adventure that permeates Gaelic mythology. Participants are invited to embark on a journey that not only challenges their physical limits but also immerses them in the enchanting mystique of Donegal’s cultural heritage.
Balor Multisport Race is a multi-discipline endurance event consisting of running, cycling and kayaking in the surrounding areas of Dunfanaghy, Co. Donegal. The event will take competitors on a 225km loop, taking in breathtaking landscapes such as the Poison Glen, Errigal Mountain, Mulroy Bay, Atlantic Drive and Muckish Railway. The event consists of six epic stages on a marked course, totaling to 47km of running over varied terrain, 167km of road cycling and 11km of flat-water kayaking, with an expected winning time of 11 hours and a cut-off time of 22 hours.
Competitors will race solo or in teams of 2-3, embracing the challenge of the course on their own. However, they will have the invaluable support of their crew at two transition areas along the route. These transition areas serve as crucial points where competitors can refuel, replenish supplies, and receive any necessary assistance from their support team. Whether it’s providing encouragement, aiding with equipment adjustments, or offering a much-needed morale boost, the support crew plays a vital role in helping competitors navigate the demanding terrain and push through the physical and mental obstacles of the race.
