Quest Sligo is the latest and most exciting event to be added to the Quest series of adventure races. This brand-new, one-day, multi-discipline sporting event will take place on Saturday 22nd August 2020 giving participants the opportunity to experience the beauty and hidden gems of South and West Sligo. The event will see participants run, cycle and kayak their way around stunning locations such as Temple House Lake, Ladies Brae, Ox Mountains, Tawnatrohaun, and Lough Easkey.
Participants will have three routes to choose from: the ‘Challenge’, ‘Sport’ and ‘Expert’ route. The Challenge route is for those who are new to Quest or adventure racing, for those more experienced there are the longer Sport and Expert routes. Whichever route is chosen participants are guaranteed an unforgettable experience with great comradery and adventure.
Stage 1 – Run
Starting outside the historic Temple House, this is a short 3km trail run around the grounds to get the heart pumping and the legs warmed up.
Terrain: Trail/ forestry Path
Precautions: Slippery when wet
Distance: 3.0km run

Stage 2 – Kayak
From Temple House Gardens, you will proceed to the kayak stage on the shores of Temple House Lake. This will entail a 1km triangular kayak route. We provide all required kayak equipment, full safety cover on the lake and double sit-on-top kayaks. You must get into the double kayak with the next person who arrives at the kayak section after you.

Stage 3 – Run
After the kayak, there is a short, easy 1km run back through Temple House Gardens to the first transition zone where you will pick up your bike.
Terrain: Trail run
Precautions: Slippery when wet

Stage 4 – Cycle
Starting at Transition 1, you will cycle on narrow country roads to the National Mountain Bike Centre in Coolaney. The first 9km is mostly flat on a secondary road with grass in the middle of the road, please be take care on this section.
Terrain: Secondary roads, sealed tarmac
Precautions: Open secondary roads and debris on road
Distance: 14km cycle

Stage 5 – Run
After reaching the National Mountain Biking Centre and dismounting your bike you will commence a 4km trail run.
This section of the route is not confirmed, subject to change and final permissions.

Precautions: Loose gravel

After your trail run, you will get back on your bike and cycle back to Temple House through the village of Coolaney arriving at Temple House gates.

Stage 5 – Run
After racking your bike at Ladies Brae, there is a mountain trail run up the majestic Ox Mountains. The start is steep with a boggy section for 2km up the newly, Quest christened, ‘Electric Run’! At the top you will cross the mountain before you descend downhill in a zig zag motion for 5km, on mostly forestry road.

Stage 6 – Bike
From transition 2 at Ladies Brae you will get back on the bike and cycle to the Mountain Bike Centre in Coolaney taking in the stunning views of Sligo Bay on the way. This stage contains very steep downhill sections.
