Kerry Way Ultra

Length of route:
Approximately 120 miles/200km (Killarney to Killarney loop).
Where & When:
Start – Randles Nissan Garage, Muckross Road, Killarney at 6am on Friday, September 3rd and finish before 10pm on Saturday September 4th 2021 at Randles Nissan Garage, Muckross Road, Killarney.
Cut-off time:
Start 6am Friday September 3rd – halfway cut-off time (Waterville), 4am Saturday September 4th. Final cut-off (Kenmare) at 4pm, finish 10pm Saturday September 4th.
Support:
Self-sufficient with Support Crews allowed at:
1. Climbers Inn, Glencar
2. Sheahans Supermarket, Glenbeigh
3. Gortmore/Foilmore Community Centre
4. The Lobster Bar, Waterville
5. Caherdaniel Community Centre
6. Sneem
7. The Vestry Car Park, Templenoe
8. Kenmare Butter Market
There will be a Bag Drop at Lord Brandon’s Cottage, Black Valley which will be the responsibility of The Kerry Way Ultra committee.
No Support Crew vehicles allowed off The Ring of Kerry road, excepting Climbers Inn, Glencar.
Length of route:
Approximately 120 miles/200km (Killarney to Killarney loop).
The Kerry Way Ultra Relay will be held over the Kerry Way route, starting and finishing in Killarney. The event will be held concurrently with The Kerry Way Ultra. The relay route is the same as The Ultra and will be run in teams of three people, with at least one female member. The tracker and race number will be the baton and can only be exchanged at the changeover points at the Crew Stops. It is your choice how you divide up the sections between Crew Stops.

The Kerry Way UltraLite – Saturday, Sept 4th 2021
This event will be held over The Kerry Way route from Sneem to Killarney, starting at Sneem at 9am on Saturday and finishing in Killarney before 10pm on Saturday. The Start will be in Sneem (NORTH Square) and the Finish will be at Randles Nissan Garage, Muckross Road, Killarney. Registration will be between 6pm and 7pm on Friday and between 7.30-8.30am on Saturday in The North Square in Sneem.
There will be a transfer from Killarney to Sneem on Saturday morning, approx. 6.30am pick-up, approx. cost €10/15 (for the Start) or a transfer from Killarney to Sneem, approx. 6.45pm pick-up, approx. cost €10/15 (after the Finish).
This is a slightly shorter version of The Kerry Way Ultra, approx 58k, and will be run concurrently with the longer event. The UltraLite will be along the same lines as The Ultra – live tracking, self-sufficient with Crew Stops and Bag Drops at Templenoe and Kenmare, emergency water only provided by the committee, no prize money but Participants Awards and No Trace Race principles applied. There will be a Mandatory Gear Check – waterproof jacket and trousers, hat, gloves, fully charged mobile phone (not on Airplane Mode), map or GPS of the route, spare food and water, survival (bivy, foil) bag and First Aid Kit. Gear Check will be before Registration and you will not be let register if you do not have all of the above, and there will be no sharing gear!!!
Race Information:
Approx. 58k in length, starting in Sneem and finishing in Killarney. There is a cut-off time of 4pm in Kenmare and this is strictly enforced. Check The Kerry Way Ultra Race Info page for details of Crew Stops, Mandatory Gear List and other general information.
This event is due to a huge demand for a shorter version of The Kerry Way Ultra and is only possible thanks to the involvement of the local landowners, South Kerry Development Partnership and the Sneem Community!

The Kerry Way UltraNite – Sept 2nd & 3rd (Fri/Sat), 2022
This event will be held over The Kerry Way route from Waterville to Killarney, starting outside Waterville, at Mastergeehy, at 9pm on Friday and finishing in The Killarney Racecourse on Saturday. Registration will be in The Lobster Bar, Waterville on Friday between 7.30pm and 8.30pm.
There will be a transfer from Killarney to Waterville on Friday evening, approx. 6pm from The Killarney Racecourse (€15) for the Start.
This is a shorter version of The Kerry Way Ultra (193k) and longer that The Kerry Way UltraLite (58k) and will be run concurrently with both events.
The UltraNite will be along the same lines – live tracking, self-sufficient with Crew Stops and Bag Drops at Caherdaniel, Sneem, Templenoe and Kenmare, emergency water only provided by the committee, no Prize Money but Participants Awards and No Trace Race principles applied.

The Kerry Way Ultra has been accepted as a Qualifying Race for the UTMB and has been attributed 6 points.
In order for participants to avail of these points, the Kerry Way Ultra committee needs to have correct information (first and last name, date of birth, scratch ranking and nationality) and get this information, along with the race results to the UTMB within 10 days of the finish of the Kerry Way Ultra.
