The first major adventure race of year “Killary Gaelforce Dublin” is complete. If it was your first, I suspect you are both buzzing and sore.  You are probably rerunning the events of the race, the cycle, the trek to the summit of Kippure, the kayaking on Blessington and that feeling of crossing the finish line as you longingly gaze at your medal wondering where you can proudly display it for all to see. At least, they were the sort of feelings I felt after my first ever race, and second, and third…

The next step in the process usually involves you scouring the internet looking for those photos that were taken by the well placed photographers so you can proudly change your facebook profile pic. Its ok, don’t feel embarrassed, its ok, you’ve earned it. And if anyone thinks differently, they clearly don’t understand what you have gone through to get that picture, that moment.

The next stage, is most likely mild rigamortis,  as your muscles begin to subtly remind you that you who is boss. But thats ok, pain is temporary, just the doms, it will go away(see our blog on this), but that sense of accomplishment, that endorphin rush will always be with you.  You probably just want to chill out now and do absolutely nothing but curl up on your sofa and order every deliverable cuisine imaginable….do it! you have also earned the right to ditch the pasta and grab that wagon wheel pizza! after all you have burnt days worth of calories. I know I certainly make an absolute pig of myself after each race and make no bones about it either.

So whats next. A dust has settled and after a period of time you may start getting restless again…Only one thing for the job, get online, check out all upcoming events and get back in the saddle…You will start thinking of how you can better yourself, your times, your transitions, getting friends involved…

Spread the word, spread that feeling…because until they finish one, they will never truly understand.

Why not share this blog out to your friends…they deserve that awesome sense of achievement too 🙂

Like our facebook page too for more of this…and why not post your pics to our page…we would love to see them. 🙂
