In less than 2 weeks, 1,100 + competitors will take on the next race on our calendar. DAR Dingle on the 10th of June. For many, this will be their first time competing in an Adventure Race and also DAR Dingle. The majority of whom will be competing in the 43km sport route. This is a great of a course but not to be under estimated…
The Breakdown
You will have a short 1km road/trail run to the kayak. This kayak is 1km in Dingle Harbour. Then back onto dry land. A short run back to the bike transition. And off you go for 20Km to Mount Eagle via Slea Head. All on surfaced road. Beautiful views along the way. Overall a 310m height elevation. All manageable but when Mount Eagle comes into view, you will be stewarded to take a sharp right, up a very steep hill. Most competitors will cycle part of the way up and dismount. I recommend this as you need to keep energy in the legs for Mount Eagle.
Mountain Eagle gets its own paragraph. This, from the transition, is a 7.5km roundtrip with a 390m height gain. This will test you physically but more so mentally…The relentless false peaks will put you through your paces. So you will need your game faces to get to the summit, and back to your bikes. Take a minute through, at the top to take in the breath taking views. It will be worth the effort. Easy coming back down, as this can really take its toll on the legs. Keep the strides, short and quick. Long strides will pound the legs and physically drain you.
The last bike leg. The next 2-3Km is downhill. A well earned rest but do not get too comfy as there will be a few short hills have way through the 11.5km cycle. It’s back to the original bike transition and home by foot to the finish line along the streets of Dingle.
One of the questions I have asked on competitor spotlights, is which is their favorite course on the calendar, they all say DAR Dingle is up there with the very best of them. I have to agree. It’s tough. It’s beautiful. It’s fulfilling. I personally have done it once but cannot wait for June 10th and taking on Mount Eagle. It nearly got the better of me last year, but now knowing the inside track, I’m ready for it this time around. I hope this helps you get the most of it this year.
